چکیده

We present new accurate near-infrared (NIR) spheroid (bulge) structural parameters obtained by twodimensional image analysis for all galaxies with a direct black hole (BH) mass determination. As expected, NIR bulge luminosities Lbul and BH masses are tightly correlated, and if we consider only those galaxies with secure BH mass measurement and accurate Lbul (27 objects), the spread of MBH-Lbul is similar to MBH-σe, where σe is the effective stellar velocity dispersion. We find an intrinsic rms scatter of ≃ 0.3 dex in log MBH. By combining the bulge effective radii Re measured in our analysis with σe, we find a tight linear correlation (rms ≃ 0.25 dex) between MBH and the virial bulge mass (∝ Reσ e ), with 〈MBH/Mbul〉 ∼ 0.002. A partial correlation analysis shows that MBH depends on both σe and Re, and that both variables are necessary to drive the correlations between MBH and other bulge properties. The Discovery of an Active Galactic Nucleus in the Late-type Galaxy Ngc 3621: Spitzer Spectroscopic Observations

We report the discovery of an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) in the nearby SAd galaxy NGC 3621 using Spitzer high spectral resolution observations. These observations reveal the presence of [NeV] 14 μm and 24 μm emission which is centrally concentrated and peaks at the position of the near-infrared nucleus. Using the [NeV] line luminosity, we estimate that the nuclear bolometric luminosity of th...

Black Holes of Active and Quiescent Galaxies: I. the Black Hole-bulge Relation Revisited

Massive Black Holes detected in the centers of many nearby galaxies show an approximately linear relation with the luminosity of the host bulge, with the black hole mass being 0.001-0.002 of the bulge mass. Previous work suggested that black holes of active (Seyfert 1) galaxies follow a similar relation, but apparently with a significantly lower value of MBH/Mbulge (Wandel 1999). New data show ...

The correlation between black hole mass and bulge velocity dispersion in hierarchical galaxy formation models

Recent work has demonstrated that there is a tight correlation between the mass of a black hole and the velocity dispersion of the bulge of its host galaxy. We show that the model of Kauffmann & Haehnelt, in which bulges and supermassive black holes both form during major mergers, produces a correlation between Mbh and σ with slope and scatter comparable to the observed relation. In the model, ...

The Central Engines of Narrow-line Seyfert 1 Galaxies

It has been suggested that narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) are evolutionarily young objects, powered by accretion onto central black holes that are significantly lower in mass than those found in typical broad-line Seyfert galaxies. We explore this hypothesis through the analysis of high spatial resolution, near-IR imaging data. By employing the correlation between black hole mass and ho...

Relations between Massive Black Holes in AGN and their Host Galaxies

Massive black holes detected in the centers of many nearby galaxies are linearly correlated with the luminosity of the host bulge, the black hole mass being about 0.1% of the bulge mass. An even stronger relation exists between the BH mass (Mbh) and the stellar velocity dispersion in the host bulge. We show that massive BHs of AGNs (measured by reverberation mapping) and their bulge luminosity ...
